Keep your budget flexible
Keep in mind that budgets are not constant things since our lives are not also entirely bound in constant and invariable activities and circumstances. Regularly check and update your budget that will fit your current financial situation. Do not get easily distressed when your cash inflows had decreased or new circumstances have led to increased spending. This is the point in time where you really need to put more efforts in putting in order your priorities in your budget list. But if things go the other way around, you can possibly loosen up some areas in your budget.

Leave space for occasional yet common expenses
Make sure not to overlook your annual or regular expenditures that you will not fail to incur during the year. These are the expenses that will not come to your doorsteps like gift boxes filled with surprises. Such items include payments for car and housing loans, life and nonlife insurance plans, and various taxes. Be mindful with these outlays since some of them do not send out regular billings. If you happen to forget them, be prepared to pay large sums that only cover for interests, fines and surcharges when they start knocking on your door.

Expect the unexpected
The occurrence of unexpected events is a normal scenario. The thing that makes it a lot worse is being caught off guard specifically in financial terms. These are irregular items that you have not foreseen to happen; you cannot have possibly anticipated for accidents and emergencies to occur. That is why, it is best to be prepared for the unknown factors. These question marks and gray areas can be answered by establishing funds for emergency purposes. To be more effective, such fund should be separated from your regular savings if practical and workable with your financial standing.

Make a realistic budget
When you do budgeting, be sure not to be too tight or too loose in fixing the elements in your list. The limits you will set on your spending patterns and expenditures must be very realistic – not too high and not too low. It is not necessary to create a very strict budget (unless you are in tight condition) when it comes to spending your money. Making rooms for non-basic expenses like treating and pampering yourself is not a sin as long as you do it only once in a while or whenever the need to do so strikes. Such kinds of spending are not healthy if you are not a well-off person who can freely indulge with those things anytime and anywhere.
