Laptops and netbooks are one of the gadgets that are used by many individuals today. It works as a computer but has a battery and all accessories in one system. The computer can work without some of its accessories so turning it off can save electricity but how can one save electricity when using a laptop when it does not have detachable accessories just like desktop computers?

The basic way to save energy in using a laptop or netbook computers is by turning your battery setting into power saver. Generally, a laptop or a netbook has three options in terms of battery setting: the high performance, the balanced performance and the power saver. High performance option entails providing great and fast performance but not taking the battery life into consideration. On the other hand, balanced performance is an option which balances the performance and the battery usage. The last option is the power saver which keeps the battery usage at the minimum. All in all these three does not really differ when it comes to performance. That means that you will not really notice the difference between the performances of the three options. Therefore, to save energy, use the power saver option which has almost the same performance like the other options.

Another way to save energy is by not using laptop coolers. Laptop coolers are indeed a useful tool that helps laptops or notebooks. It cools the bottom part or the motherboard of the laptop to prevent it from overheating. Moreover, cooling the laptop helps extend its battery life. However, the laptop fan or cooler itself drains the battery. The fans use the battery (or the electricity that flows through the laptop when the battery is not used) to make it work thus draining it. Instead of using a laptop cooler, find a box which can hold the laptop when the box is turned upside down. This box should have holes in which air can pass right through. Turn this box upside down which will make it look like a small table. Put the laptop on top and it will be an energy saving laptop cooler. The holes in the box tend to make air pass through which cools the processing unit of the laptop. It works just like an electric laptop cooler but without the fan, plus you will have a spare USB port.

Laptops may be small in size but it uses the same electricity just like other appliances. In saving electricity through the use of laptop one must consider the consequence that one must face. If it will not affect the laptop much, it is better to do that electricity saving techniques to save money.
